Aramaya is a new sustainable jewellery venture, based in Melbourne, with an African name meaning “origin”.
We are producers of high quality sustainably sourced ivory and ebony jewellery and inlays obtained from old piano keyboards from Pianos Recycled (www.pianorecycled.com.au). We are doing this in partnership with local, established and skilled custom jewellery makers and luthiers in and around Melbourne.
Our company aims to be a third wave sustaining corporation, where environmental values are upheld as of equal importance to social and economic values. We recognise the need for us to integrate these values across everything we do to attain economic, social and environmental legitimacy, as well as hoping to inspire others to do the same.
Everything we do matters and has an effect- some are seen and known, and others are not. At Aramaya, we aim to utilise old but precious materials no longer wanted and headed to landfill, and transform them into something new and beautiful. In doing so, we use them to positively benefit the world – through elephant preservation, raising awareness of what it took to produce these items and demonstrating what is truly possible when you want to make a difference.
